“Whoop whoop” – What they would call something way out in the bush or the
countryside. Basically like what we would call “out in the sticks.” Apparently,
Whoop-Whoop was originally the name of a tiny little town way out in the bush
and the name has since been turned into the Australian slang for describing
something way out in the middle of nowhere.
“Ute” – Ok, let’s try explaining this one.
What this boils down to is that a truck is a ute. Which I think is the slang word for “utility.”
Then there is the whole Semi truck thing which when I point out a Semi they say
“no, that’s a truck.” So basically a truck is a ute and a semi is a truck. What.
“Jillaroo & Jackaroo” – In more or less words this can be
translated into what we would call a cowboy or a cowgirl in the States. For
example, one of my housemates called me a Jillaroo when I told her I drove a ute,
rode horses, could skin a turkey, and have taught myself to shoot off horseback.

Reading the Word with good friends and spending time out in God's beautiful creation!
As many of you are aware, this past week consisted of
that wonderful holiday called April Fool’s day which, as we all know, is well
known for bringing family and friends infinitely closer together *Ehem*. I was incredibly
blessed to have no sort of prank pulled on me personally (thank goodness!) but
the group of us did play a prank of awesome proportions on one of our
housemates. The night before the wondrous
day, four of us at the lodge that had printers went about on this giant printing
spurt acquiring, I kid you not, HUNDREDS of pictures of Isaac, one of our other housemates.
The following morning, armed with this huge bag of little
Isaac pictures, a good number of us went around the lodge hiding pictures in
every nook and cranny we could possible imagine. Some of them were obvious, many of them weren’t.
I have a feeling residents of the lodge will be finding Isaac’s face hidden in
the most obscure of places for YEARS to come. There were so many of us hiding pictures that
most of us have no idea where a good deal of them are and are constantly being surprised
anew by the face of our good housemate.

Yes, the picture is IN the fish tank, and yes, that other one is IN the bottle of soap. Dedication man.
And who can forget the ute? While most of us were in the
lodge hiding the pictures, Hannah and Aiden went out front with stacks and
stacks of sticky notes and covered the whole front of Isaac’s ute with tons of
pastel paper squares. It was a
fabulously bright and beautiful creation by the end I must say!

Other than pranking Isaac, I was also inducted into the "Owners of Milo" club when I went to the store and finally bought a tin of the traditional Aussie malt powder. It’s used here
almost like hot chocolate mix is in the states, drinking it in hot or cold milk
usually. It’s pretty good and I might
just have to take a tin home with me at the end J
I also learned that sometimes in the summers here, the
roads get so hot from the strength of the sun that they actually melt a little bit. That is one HOT sun!
And then, highlight of the week, I got to go see Phantom
of the Opera!! That was so fantastic and I cannot tell you how excited I was to
finally see it live!

Going to the opera with this lovely lady!
The actors all did a great job and the singing was fantastic! Almost exactly as I imagined it J. One thing I was surprised by, which probably
would have seemed normal to me if I had seen an opera before, was that the
orchestra was UNDER the stage! I know it’s probably a well known and commonly
used practice but really, how cool is that?!
